For those of you who don’t know, I do the YWAM Reef to Outback iNews each month. I write the script, film, capture, edit, and export. The full production process. I really enjoy making videos.
In this edition of the YWAM Reef to Outback iNews you will hear about the Media in Missions School of Design. You will meet Amelia Hulme and hear about what she does. You will also hear about the ywam australia national leaders meeting from Hannah Peart.
Josiah and I were able to get away for a few days and hang out and rest last weekend. We went up to Cairns where we know a nice place to stay for missionaries and were able to drive out to the beautiful Tablelands and explore a bit. Josiah took some excellent photos of us at a lookout and some of the waterfalls that all within 12 kilometers of each other. Absolutely breathtaking and amazing.
The weekend was so, so refreshing for the both of us, we rested and talked and walked and even watched a few of the Star Wars movies. I was really happy to chill out after being so busy with the NLM and we enjoyed being with each other.
Wow, was it a fun birthday this year! Josiah went all out to make me feel extra special this year, from my family’s traditional ice-cream sundae for breakfast to a decked-out pink party with lots of friends! My family sent me heaps of fun presents from clothes to jewelry to books to Hot Tamales! And my friends blessed me incredibly by pitching in and giving me perfume I had been wanting.
We celebrated with lots of cookies and cakes and Josiah even dyed the ice cream pink for the huge party! Everyone wore pink, some of the guys borrowed some shirts from the girls and it was pretty hilarious! It was especially special this year, I felt very valued and blessed and appreciated everyone thinking of me and saying happy birthday. It was truly wonderful. Thank you so much! Enjoy the pictures on Flickr!
The beginning of May was one of two conferences we hold each year for YWAM Australia called the National Leaders Meeting. It’s an opportunity for leaders from all bases in YWAM to congregate and fellowship/socialize, receive some encouragement and great teaching, and even bless, recognize and honor certain individuals that have been involved in YWAM for long periods of time.
There was a lot that happened from May 5-9; Josiah oversaw the whole media/IT side of things and I tried to help a little so we were here for every session which quickly became tiring but very eventful and fulfilling. The mornings ranged with teachings from different leaders about transformational leadership to the focus and purpose of YWAM Australia to just encouraging every individual on who we are in God and why we do what we do out of a greater love. The evening sessions usually consisted of something light-hearted and fun, like group karaoke night, honoring night and even a dance
One of my highlights was getting to do a video link with Loren Cunningham and hear him speak about the original formation of YWAM and hearing all of his crazy stories of God’s provision and faithfulness. He is absolutely amazing to hear and was such a privilege to be able to do that. You can read more about Loren and Darlene Cunningham and YWAM’s beginnings at www.ywam.org or even read his book "Is That Really You, God?" that is a great story book of God and his miracles. (Email me and I can send you a copy!
The Surprise Dance was also a lot of fun; they honored three women who have been with YWAM Australia for more than 20 years, and they hired professional ball-room dancers to do a special dance in reflection of their service…it was beautiful and I creative way to honor women I thought! One of the women was quite spunky and cheeky, so the dancers did the cha-cha for her! Afterwards we all learned a dance that the professional dancers coached us through and threw back our heels for a great time to classical hits later
We will be running the Media in Missions-School of Design here at YWAM Reef to Outback in July.
I will be helping to co-lead the school. My heart for the school is to see people trained and equipped for missions, as well as see tools created to help mobilize people into missions.

We would really apprecate prayer for the school. We need to see at least 4 or 5 more students apply or we won’t be able to run the school.
Learn it
Get equipped to communicate God’s heart for the world through visual communications! We are in a digital age … a time in history when the Gospel can cross the world in a matter of moments. The Media in Missions School of Design will teach you core elements of effective visual design and creatively equip you to use media as a tool in missions. From brochure to logo design, you will be exposed to a well-rounded understanding of print, video and web design.
Do it
One of the purposes of this school is to see individuals rise up in their potential to learn and grow in areas of their calling, to use media as a tool, and then to be released into missions. It is when we are co-creating with God that we are able to reach the unreached in relevant ways and to redeem godly values in media.
Tell it
Its time for this generation to stand up and share a message of hope and truth. Your new design skills will be put into practice as you create projects for ministries in the overseas outreach location and apply your experience abroad into practical real-time projects.
